The Leaving Certificate Applied is a two year Leaving Certificate available to students who wish to follow a practical programme with a strong practical and vocational emphasis. The aims of the LCA programme are to prepare students for the transition into adult working life, to develop confidence and responsibility and to open alternative routes to education and employment. These aims are achieved through a wide variety of subjects, work experience and tasks.
LCA is a project/task based Leaving Certificate with final written, oral, or practical exams in English & Communications, Mathematical Applications, Irish, French, I.C.T, Social Education and Hotel Catering & Tourism. Students also participate in Hair and Beauty, Childcare, Vocation Preparation and Guidance, Art, Leisure & Recreation and Religion on a project only basis. Students who successfully complete the programme will receive a Leaving Certificate from the State Examinations Commission graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.
