JCSP Science Initiative – mobile planetarium

We had a fun, interactive mobile planetarium to our school as part of the JCSP Science Initiative.  Students and staff had the opportunity to explore space through four exciting shows and full-dome films, ask questions, and discover science and astronomy in a new and engaging way. Unfortunately we couldn’t capture images of how incredible it was inside the dome.

A big thank you to Martin and Jimmy from @exploration_dome for delivering such an enjoyable and inspiring experience for everyone

Storyteller Niall De Burca visits our library

Niall de Burca, Irish storyteller of renown, visited Mount Carmel library on Thursday April

16th . Niall tells stories not only rooted in Irish legends, and as Gaeilge, but inspired by

his travels around Europe and beyond. He had just come back from Ukraine the week

before he came to see us.

Niall met our 1st, 2nd and 3rd years and 5th class students from Paradise Place Educate Together Primary School. That is a total of 110 Mount Carmel

students, 15 Paradise Place NS students and 17 teachers.

He told us stories of bears and ghouls, of powerful strong women, chatty lizards and lazy

crocodiles in Ireland, Romania and Africa to name but a few.

Niall’s kindness and

thoughtfulness meant he connected with everyone in the room. He gave us space to

dream, lifted us up and inspired us – as well as making us jump out of skins with fright!

As Niall says himself Níor bhris focal maith fiacal riamh… A good word never broke a tooth.
