Music Department

Music Department

We have a very vibrant music department here at Mount Carmel. Music is a subject at junior cycle and leaving Cert and caters for every aspect of the Students musical talents with our very popular musicals, and many more events throughout the School calendar. We are very lucky to be involved in some very exciting projects.

Our School Choir

Imelda May and Kila collaboration

The School Choir were lucky enough last year to have the chance to collaborate with singer/song-writer Imelda May and the traditional Irish group Kila. The Students were given the opportunity to do an arrangement of an original song by Kila. The song was performed by Imelda May, Kila and the School choir, and was later aired on TG4.

Ireland A.M

For the past two years the Choir have been selected to take part in an advertisement for the Jervis centre at Christmas, which was shown throughout the show on Ireland A.M. This has been a wonderful experience for all involved and a fantastic opportunity for the Students to showcase their musical talents.

Christ Church Cathedral

Mount Carmel are very privileged to be one of the select few choirs that take part in Carol singing at Christ church Cathedral every year. This has created lots of opportunities for Students and some of our Students have also been selected to be members of the Christ Church Cathedral Choir.

Emmanuel

The Emmanuel is a liturgical programme for the Dublin Diocese which takes part in spring every year. This programme is completed by transition year Students and gives the Students the chance to audition for solos. We are very proud to have soloists every year taking part in this amazing programme which is performed in the Helix. This concert gives the Students a great love for music with many describing as one of the highlights of the year.

We are so fortunate to welcome Music generation into our school this year as they are working with our Transition Year students.

Performance music education means supporting children and young people to make and learn music in creative, diverse, inclusive ways, whether that’s writing and performing a song, playing an instrument, practising as part of an orchestra or jamming with a band.

Music Generation believe that making and performing music should be a joyful experience that has the potential to transform children and young people’s lives in many possible ways.
