Visit to Telling Tales Literary Festival in Trinity College

A group of First Year students had the exciting opportunity to attend a World Book Day celebration with JCSP Librarians Áine & Jenny in Trinity College Dublin on 3rd March.

We arrived early to explore the campus, giving students a chance to soak up the atmosphere and experience the surroundings ️ We then made our way to the Edmund Burke Theatre, where schools from all around the country were excitedly queuing to enter the venue.

The morning began with an inspiring welcome from author and creative-writing facilitator Dave Rudden, who encouraged students to see themselves not only as readers, but as storytellers with powerful voices of their own ️

Students then worked with a range of authors, illustrators and storytellers. They were divided into five groups for 80-minute interactive workshops that challenged them to think imaginatively, experiment with language and collaborate with their peers

Afterwards, each student chose a book to take home and had the opportunity to meet the authors during a book-signing session which was a memorable highlight of the day ⭐

The festival featured an outstanding line-up:

  • Dave Rudden, fantasy author
  • Patricia Forde, Author and Laureate na nÓg
  • Steve Ellis, comic book artist
  • Niall de Búrca, performance storyteller
  • Alison Weatherby, detective novelist

It was a wonderful day celebrating reading and writing in all their forms –  highlighting the many ways stories can be shared and reinforcing that every student’s story has real value.
