TY Social Awareness Initiative

Last week, TY Cara class visited senior members of our community, during their weekly social gathering, in Henrietta St. Students baked cupcakes, prepared treats and organised games for everyone and gave out prizes to the winners.

The students also had the chance to talk to everyone attending, asking them about their childhoods and what life was like when they were younger. Students found this very interesting. The event was such a success that they have been invited back another day, with TY Clodagh class scheduled to do the same, after Easter.

A big thanks to Ms. Farrington and Harry Keogh from Localise, for organising this super event. Students themselves said they had an ‘amazing time’ . Localise also posted a short article about the event on their own website, link as follows: https://www.localise.ie/delivering-smiles-straight-from-the-heart/

Welcoming Future Educators

Library Fun: AR Quizzes, Stars, Knitting, Literacy & Learning

We were delighted to host 27 trainee teachers and several staff members from IPABO University, Amsterdam, in our Mount Carmel JCSP Library! They learned about the Irish education system and discovered some of the amazing reading initiatives run by our JCSP Libraries.

After the presentations, students joined in with library activities – jigsaw puzzles, knitting, crochet – several took Accelerated Reader quizzes, earning stars on our AR Success Window A day full of fun, literacy and learning!

The group was welcomed by our principal, Mr O’Riordan, who spoke about the school and provided an overview of secondary education in Ireland.

Kathleen Moran, Senior Project Coordinator, then spoke about the JCSP Demonstration Library Project, outlining the strong evidence of its impact and the work the project has done, and continues to do, in supporting reading engagement, inclusion and learner confidence across schools.

Following this, Jenny, the school librarian, spoke to the students about the day-to-day work of the library. She highlighted ongoing events and activities, including reading initiatives, student-led programmes and creative wellbeing activities.
